The Problem
Integration engineers spent 150 minutes per OLT commissioning session — manually navigating 20+ screens to screenshot configurations for the Acceptance Test Procedure report.
"I know exactly where every screen is. I still have to click through all of them every single time just to prove the device is configured."
Before - Around 150 minutes
- Navigate to OLT device
- Open each config section
- Screenshot 32 PON ports individually
- Screenshot alarms, events, KPIs
- Screenshot subscriber list
- Compile screenshots into document manually
After - Around 2 to 3 minutes
- Open Inventory List
- Select OLT → Action menu
- Click 'ATP Report'
- Report auto-generates
- All sections compiled automatically
- Download and share
Design Decision
Why Automation and not a navigation redesign?
Research showed engineers weren't lost — they knew every screen. The pain was pure repetition. A navigation redesign would take 6+ months with no guaranteed fix. Automation solved the exact stated problem in weeks.
Solution
One-click report generation from the Inventory List. RMS auto-traverses all configuration screens and compiles the full ATP document in 2–3 minutes.
Impact
150 minutes → 2–3 minutes
50 OLTs deployed faster in the first year after launch
3 devices in 2 days → 3 devices in 1 day
Engineers described it as a feature they "loved" — rare for internal tooling
If I revisited this
The ATP Report fixes the symptom. The underlying navigation complexity is still there. With more time, I'd run a parallel track — ship the automation as a quick win while beginning a navigation audit to find the remaining 20–30% efficiency gain.
